The Pottery Studio
The artists at Yellow Banks 'turn' (get it?) out some very unique pottery in their studio. Please excuse the pun.
See for yourself-
Although the art of making items out of clay has been practiced for thousands of years, not all pottery is 'created equal'. The discovery that the clay found at Yellow Banks was 'ideal' probably dates back to the time that the Native Americans roamed this area. Yellow Banks is very fortunate that the veins of clay are many feet thick and are just the right make up.
According to Scott, our master
potter,
the
raw material determines the appearance and the durability of the
finished product.
The other factor that effects the finished product is the glaze. As any potter will tell you this is the 'secret' of producing beautiful pottery. There are commercial glazes available, but they leave much to be desired.
Every successful potter has spent years of 'cut and try' experimenting to develop the repertoire of glazes that give just the 'right' effect. Jim Marshall, Scott's father, started the search for unique glazes over 20 years ago and Scott has carried on the tradition.
Yellow Banks pottery studio makes mostly dinnerware, yard ornaments, bird feeders, bird baths etc. But you never know.
You may find that piece that you 'just can't live without'.
Stop by Yellow Banks Pottery
Studio the next time you're in the area. Stay awhile if you
like, you may be lucky enough to catch them 'creating'.
