The Resident Sculpturess

Meet Kim Kingery-Marshall

Kim has been sculpting using a chainsaw for 3 years and took second place in a recent contest.  All of her competition were male scuplturers, some with over 20 years experience.

Kim started her chainsaw sculpting, seriously, when the town of Huntingburg Indiana asked her to turn a massive old stump,

in a city park, into a work of art.  Not bad for a an amateur.

Actually Kim is not really an amateur.  She studied commercial art, ceramics, painting and you guessed it, sculpting.   When she saw a man named James Taylor sculpting with a chainsaw, she caught fire.  She KNEW that's how she wanted to create.  She studied under Mr. Taylor for a year before starting off on her own.

From the humble beginning of carving an old stump, the City of Huntingburg, Indiana invited here back to help beautify their City Park.  One of her next efforts was the totem pole

you see.  This is the finished work.

Kim is a very prolific artist.  In her words "once I get the chainsaw in my hands 'the whole world goes away'".  She creates 'pumpkins' for Halloween, Santa Claus's for Christmas; Indians, bears, eagles, turtles, frogs, rosters or anything else her clients can imagine.  Here are a few examples of her work:

Most of her pieces are for commercial outlets, but she welcomes commissions.  Kim looks forward to challenges and is willing to work with her clients to create just the 'right' piece.

You can contact Kim through Yellow Banks.  Better yet, why don't you visit the Yellow Banks Recreation Center and watch her in action.
